The Punjab Transport Department has announced the arrival of Lahore’s first fleet of electric buses, set to revolutionize the city's public transport system. Transport Secretary Dr. Ahmad Javid Qazi confirmed that 27 eco-friendly buses arrived at Karachi Port on January 15, six days earlier than expected. These state-of-the-art electric buses, imported from China, will be transported to Lahore by January 21. Following an unveiling ceremony, the buses are slated to officially commence operations on January 31. The electric buses will initially operate on two major routes: Canal Road to RA Bazaar Railway Station to RA Bazaar This first phase aims to provide cleaner and more efficient public transportation for residents in these busy areas. Dr. Qazi emphasized the significance of this initiative in promoting sustainable urban transport. Each bus, with a lifespan of 12 years, costs Rs. 88 million. The total project cost of Rs. 2.46 billion underscores the government’s commitment to introducing environment-friendly solutions to Lahore’s transport challenges. Provincial Transport Minister Bilal Akbar Khan will oversee the receipt of the buses at Karachi Port this week. Preparations are in full swing to ensure a smooth rollout on Lahore’s roads, as confirmed by Dr. Qazi. This initiative marks a significant milestone in Lahore’s journey toward a greener future. It reflects Punjab’s commitment to modernizing public transport and addressing environmental concerns, paving the way for more sustainable urban development.
